Tay Rivers Trust Host Fund Raising Dinner

Guests dressed in black tie with a touch of tartan attended the Miss Ballantine 100th Anniversary dinner at the Murrayshall Hotel in Perth, Friday 7th October. The event raised over £18,000 for the Tay Rivers Trust which restores and maintains the aquatic diversity of the Tay catchment.

As well as video messages from celebrity anglers Robson Green and Jim Murray, the annual Malloch Trophy was awarded for the best Atlantic salmon caught on the fly in Scotland. The competition is named after PD Malloch, the Perth based tackle shop that Georgina Ballantine purchased her fishing rod from and also the place where crowds flocked in 1922 for a glimpse of the record fish in the shop window.

Mrs Lorna Lyle (pictured) presented the winner, David Johnstone, with the Malloch Trophy for his wonderful 29.5lb spring salmon caught on the river Naver.

Later this month the Tay Rivers Trust will be launching its annual online auction to raise money to continue the work to protect, conserve, improve and enhance fish species within the Tay rives catchment. More than 60 lots which include fishing, football, hampers, whisky, accommodation and much more. Details of the auction and how you can make a donation to the Tay Rivers Trust can be found here.
