We asked Dr David Summers to look at an eighteen pound fish caught by Gordon Donaldson on Lower Bolfracks beat on the upper Tay.
The adipose fin had been clipped.
Gordon’s eighteen pound fish is a three sea wintered fish (3SW), meaning it
went to sea as a smolt in 2019. It would most likely have gone to sea as a
two year old smolt, which would mean it was stocked as a large fry/small
parr in Autumn 2017.
In 2017 the board stocked 4,665 parr in the River Lyon and 3,149 in the
River Lochay, all adipose clipped for ID. As both tributaries are to the
west of Lower Bolfracks this fish could potentially have been stocked in
either.
